The Denali Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Kitka as the new Federal Co-Chair of the Denali Commission, who began her first day October 21, 2024. Julie, who has long been a powerful advocate for Alaska Native communities, brings over 33 years of leadership experience from her tenure as President of the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN). Her deep understanding of rural Alaska and her commitment to economic and infrastructure development make her uniquely suited for this important position.

As Federal Co-Chair, Julie Kitka will work with an incredible team to lead efforts to promote economic growth and improve infrastructure across rural Alaska, continuing her legacy of impactful leadership for the benefit of Alaska Native and rural communities.

“I look forward to working with the Governor and his team to strengthen the federal-state partnership and engaging the Commissioners to accomplish mutual goals. There is a lot of work to do. Together, we must clearly identify our challenges and put in place workable solutions. The Denali Commission is uniquely positioned to improve the lives of rural Alaskans and build the critical infrastructure they need. I deeply thank Jocelyn Fenton, Interim Federal Co-chair for her leadership,” said Julie.

The Commission looks forward to the positive changes and developments ahead under Julie’s leadership.
