The Denali Commission’s Federal Co-Chair Jason Hoke and Program Manager Jocelyn Fenton attended the annual Southeast Conference meeting in Sitka September 18-20th. Discussions focused on sharing solutions and challenges in the Southeast Alaska region and topics included energy, housing, telecommunications, natural resource development, economic development, higher education and training, solid waste management, healthcare, transportation, tourism, seafood industry, and the 2020 Census.
Multiple video-recorded messages from Senator Murkowski, Senator Sullivan, and Congressman Young focused on the Tongass “roadless rule,” local hazard mitigation planning, American Mineral Security Act bill, energy, fisheries, and the critically-important marine highway system in the Southeast.
As the state and federally designated regional economic development organization for Southeast Alaska, the Southeast Conference serves as the collective voice for advancing the region’s economy.
