Sustainable Rural Communities Print E-mail

As defined by statute, the Denali Commission is charged with a role of improving governmental effectiveness. That charge is the purpose of this posting and we hope we can get your cooperation and input on an important project.

The foundation for collaboration at the Commission has been a unique Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between both state and federal agencies throughout Alaska (last executed in 2008). The new Sustainable Rural Communities Workgroup is operating today under this MOU. This new workgroup, thus far, has been comprised of Alaska federal agencies. This group recently developed the Sustainable Rural Communities Report 2010.

The next phase of this effort includes a broader perspective from state, private and Tribal organizations. The Commission is now seeking public comment on the Sustainable Rural Communities Report.

The Commission needs your thoughts on the  top 5 Internal and Interagency Barriers to Sustainable Community Development. Those barriers could include statutory and regulatory or agency policy restrictions. The Commission also seeks to identify specific "fixes" or solutions to those barriers. You can submit your information by using this form or by separate email.

It is the plan of this group to gather public comment and input on this report and develop an addendum to include state, private and Tribal input on this document. The deadline for comment is September 17, 2010.
